The Busted Gentleman - Venus Sculpture Candle
Venus Candle Sculpture
The human body as represented in classical art, and particularly the naked female form, has long been a familiar subject of artists and sculptors stretching far back into antiquity and has influenced our conceptions of beauty all the way up and into our present time. Central to this cultural legacy has been Venus, as the goddess of love and sexuality, there has always been a degree of social acceptability to depict her in a state of undress, for as a classical figure, nudity and erotic beauty are considered her natural attributes. And as such we’ve long-named many idealised nude female forms ‘Venus’ in the post-classical age, whether they depict the goddess or not, precisely because Venus gives us licence to look.
Here, in soy-wax, mimicking the shattered remains of a long-gone artistic tradition, from an age with vastly different cultural values, we still admire the timelessness of this idealised human form.
